The main objective of this project work is to make the comparison of the buckling strength for stainless steel and aluminum alloy using perforations of various combinations subjected to the compressive loading. For this project an open lipped C-channel made up of Aluminium alloys and the Cold formed steel alloys are used. For this purpose, a finite element model is developed using ANSYS and its accuracy is validated using experimental results. The study showed that the ultimate load of the open lipped channels under compression varied greatly with the perforation position. The Comparisons of the finite element results and the test results are also made and conclusions are drawn on the basis of the comparisons. The main aim of the project is to determine the buckling strength of the Cold formed steel and aluminium alloys used in structural applications having different combinations of circular perforations and comparison between the experimental and FEA results.
