Abstract:
In this paper, we outline the three phase traffic theory. A macroscopic traffic flow model which factors the driver aggressiveness is developed. The features of this model are discussed in detail and compared against those of existing models like the Aw- Rascle model. The model is written in conservation form and solved using hybrid numerical scheme based on the Godunov method. When simulated results are compared with those of Aw- Rascle model, our model is found to be more realistic since it is able to predict the behavior of a vehicle that approaches a slow moving vehicle when the traffic density ahead is not changing.
